If a tool asks for "subtitles" without saying which, SRT is the safer choice. Both formats are plain text, so you can open them in any text editor.

Common things people do with them

Before you use them

Auto-generated captions can have wrong words and little punctuation, so read them through before publishing. And only re-upload subtitles to videos you own or have permission to caption. There are dedicated pages for YouTube to SRT and YouTube to VTT.
